Strengthening of district health services
Much of our work at Health Partners Southern Africa has focused on strengthening district health services in Africa.
Working at this level requires a high degree of political sensitivity, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement, all of which are critical components of embedding health sector reform. We support this with the following:
- Developing integrated management tools for the evaluation of Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities
- Appraisals of facilities with respect to infrastructure, equipment, staffing, management, information systems, patient care, finances and accounting
- Developing a single budgeting approach
- Developing an efficient referral system
- Developing PHC services
Some examples of our work
- Research study on Primary Health Care facilities and services rendered, South Africa
- Greater Alexandra Renewal Project: Development of an Effective District Health Management Framework, South Africa
- Human Resource Requirements for District Health Services, South Africa
- Evaluation of Siyakha and Alexandra PHC Projects, South Africa
- Rationalisation of District Personnel Skills Mix, South Africa
