Hospital Reform Programme, Tanzania
Health Partners Southern Africa and Health Partners International provided technical support to the Tanzanian Ministry of Health (MoH) in the conceptualisation, planning, implementation and monitoring of a major initiative for the reform of hospital services.
This work took place within the context of wider reforms within the health sector and the introduction of a Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) to health service development.
Activities included:
- the development of a hospital strategy
- formulation of a ten year capital development and service plan
- strategic planning of capital development of Muhimbili National Hospital
- a study tour on hospital reform to South Africa for key officials
- hospital management development
- the harmonisation of rehabilitation and management reforms at Muhimbili Hospital, the main national referral and teaching hospital of Tanzania.
