Development of a Revenue Management System for all Gauteng Hospitals, South Africa
Health Partners Southern Africa has developed a revenue management system that was implemented in public
hospitals in Gauteng and which aimed to improve hospital revenues from their
paying patients.
The project involved an analysis of patient information, data
collection and revenue flow processes. In particular, HPSA designed the system
framework through an assessment of all revenue related activities: from patient entry
into the hospital to discharge.
This system was then linked to the patient fee
structure and applied to the admission systems. Reporting from the revenue system
provide accurate information on revenue generated, revenue outstanding and
revenue lost.
